A surreal dance to link a car accident and a broken relationship

What initially appears to be the scene of a car accident turns out to be the stage for a couple's amazing dance set entirely against the ground. Motion Theory (http://www.motiontheory.com) director Mathew Cullen conveyed the relationship themes in "Chasing Pavements" with a dramatic two-dimensional dance that has a man and a woman falling in and out of love. The amazing dance, which creates the illusion of natural movement along the pavement, was achieved entirely in camera, without the use of any visual effects or wires. "Chasing Pavements" represents the first music video for Adele, a rising star on the British independent music scene with XL Recordings, the label for such acts as Sigur Ros, White Stripes, and Radiohead, among many others. Adele's role in the video represents the failing relationship more literally, with an escalating conflict in her own on-screen relationship. When the song breaks into chorus, the two injured people on the ground break into a sensual dance, culminating in a final dance that breaks through both storylines.
